# Benchmarks

Measured on a bench Worker on 11 Oct, with fake agents (`scripts/bench.mjs`), scripted ones (`scripts/swarm.mjs`) and real Claude Code agents (`scripts/claude-agents.mjs`), each on its own copy of Express; the demo run, on githive.app. Bench gets no Artifacts push events (an account has one subscription, and githive.app has it), so it notices each push by reading the agent's fork, a little later: githive.app is faster, most where many small changes land in a few minutes, as in the demo. Every run's plan and log is in [`bench-results/`](https://github.com/nuandy/githive/blob/main/bench-results/README.md), with earlier runs and what changed between them.

| Run | Agents | Result | Work time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Claim, push, check and release ([`claims-1011-2`](https://github.com/nuandy/githive/blob/main/bench-results)) | 1,000 at once | none failed; one of five racers wins a contested path | 46 s |
| | 200 at once | none failed | 42 s |
| Scripted swarm, no reviews or checks ([`run-1000-10`](https://github.com/nuandy/githive/blob/main/bench-results/swarm/1000)) | 1,000 | 1,000 of 1,000 landed, audit clean | 15 min (32 with setup) |
| Scripted swarm, no reviews or checks ([`run-200-1011`](https://github.com/nuandy/githive/blob/main/bench-results/swarm/200)) | 200 | 200 of 200 landed, audit clean | 3 min 36 s |
| Scripted swarm, one approving review per change and `npm install` and `npm test` on every batch ([`run-200-checked-1011b`](https://github.com/nuandy/githive/blob/main/bench-results/swarm/200)) | 200 | 200 of 200 landed, audit clean | 9 min 16 s |
| Real agents, reviews and the same checks ([`run-agents-20-1011`](https://github.com/nuandy/githive/blob/main/bench-results/agents)) | 20 | 27 of 27 tasks landed, audit clean | 10 min 42 s |
| Real agents, choosing work from `reviews` and `backlog`, with reviews ([`run-agents-reviews-1011`](https://github.com/nuandy/githive/blob/main/bench-results/agents)) | 5 | 27 of 27 landed (and one fix an agent added), audit clean | 22 min 42 s |
| The same, without reviews ([`run-agents-free-1011b`](https://github.com/nuandy/githive/blob/main/bench-results/agents)) | 5 | 27 of 27 landed, audit clean | 13 min 56 s |
| GitHive's own hosted agents building Honeycomb from the dashboard's demo button, with reviews and `npm test` on every landing (githive.app, 14 Oct, runs 3 and 4) | 11 | 11 of 11 pieces landed in each, audit clean | 5.6 min each, with setup |

**Clef's hints** (bench, 13 Oct, [`scripts/clef-probe.mjs`](https://github.com/nuandy/githive/blob/main/scripts/clef-probe.mjs), logs `probe-1013.log` and `probe-1013b.log` in [`bench-results/clef/`](https://github.com/nuandy/githive/blob/main/bench-results/clef)): every case below drew the answer it was meant to, twice over. Those logs also show steering text refused, by a guard that has since been taken out. Push hints need push events, which only production gets: there ([`scripts/clef-push-probe.mjs`](https://github.com/nuandy/githive/blob/main/scripts/clef-push-probe.mjs), `push-probe-prod-1013.log`), a blank page's preview was named broken (0.98), a steering code comment was caught (0.94) but a steering commit message wasn't, and a typo fix that also deleted every user was named off its intent (0.95).

| Case | Clef's answer, as the tool replied | Call |
|---|---|---|
| A claim to "throttle repeated failed logins" on other paths than an open "rate-limit login attempts per IP" | `similar`: the rate-limit change, 0.75 | 1.2 s |
| A claim to add a dark mode toggle | nothing similar | 1.1 s |
| A rejection saying "not good, redo it" | `vagueEvidence` | 3.6 s, the repo's first vote |
| A rejection naming the file, line, bug and fix | not vague | 1.3 s |
| Questions to people: the build broken for twelve agents; logins failing, revert?; the footer's wording | urgency 2, 1.9 and 0.1 | 2.1 to 2.3 s, the first 8.1 s |

Claims, backlog pieces and votes ask `clef-flash`; questions ask the larger `clef`. A backlog piece locking accounts after failed logins wasn't named as a duplicate of the rate-limit change: related work, not the same.

Real agents spend nearly all their time reading, testing and writing, so their runs are about as fast as on 10 Oct; GitHive's speed shows where many agents land at once. The same 200-agent run with reviews and checks took 36 minutes of work on 10 Oct, and 1,000 agents landed at most 120 changes before failing. In another run, one agent was told to plant a subtle bug that kept the tests passing; its reviewer caught it, and the fixed commit landed.
